In 2001, Lock Vale Fine Art and the Cultural Arts Council of Estes Park hosted a one day plein air event at the Stanley Hotel.
“Estes Park Plein Air” was created in 2002 as a joint effort between the CAC and 5 other galleries. It involved over 100 artists. Over time, galleries closed and it became more difficult balancing a profit/nonprofit partnership.
Plein Air Rockies made its debut in 2009, and continues today as the premier program offering presented by the CAC with an expanded focus on arts education.
In addition to observing some of the nation’s top plein air artists at work, locals and tourists alike enjoy watching our two-hour quick draw competition, followed by a gala opening, awards ceremony and reception. The art that is created during the two weeks of events is displayed in our gallery through the month of September.
Fifty percent of the sales revenue benefits the Cultural Arts Council of Estes Park, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting all disciplines of art in the greater Estes Valley. We provide affordable or no cost visual and performing arts programming year round, and act as a vital information and support resource for the arts community in the greater Estes Valley.
For 2016, thirty-four artists from all over the country are participating in this, the largest art paint-out event in Estes Park.
